The lunar nodes: an alternative look at growth, relationships, and multiple lives

The road to do not know

Summary

  • Individual and relational: growth through the North Node shows up in both inner change and real-life relationships.
  • Connected to multiple lives: the South Node does not refer to one past life but to a network of parallel lives and experiences. See this article.
  • Layers of meaning: the North Node unfolds in phases; its meaning changes and deepens across life stages.
  • The role of the astrologer: a good astrologer interprets the Nodes without dogma, with openness and even humor, showing growth as a process of trial and error.

The North Node is often associated with personal growth, but that development never takes place only on an individual level. It is within relationships that real change becomes visible. You may believe that you’ve made great progress, yet it is in your interactions with others that those steps are truly tested. In friendships, romantic partnerships, or professional contexts, it becomes clear whether greater confidence, honesty, or self-acceptance can also be expressed in connection with others. At the same time, growth also unfolds on a psychological level: a deeper sense of peace, happiness, or self-acceptance can already be felt inwardly, even without external confirmation. Both levels – inner and relational – move alongside one another.

When we view reincarnation as a multidimensional process,as explained in this article our perspective on the Nodes also changes. Instead of linking the South Node to one single past life, we begin to see a much wider field of possibilities. The greater Self lives through multiple lives at once, spread across different eras and circumstances. The South Node can therefore point to several experiences: some strong and vivid, others like a faint whisper in the background. It is not limited to one story, but more like a network of impressions and memories that together shape the foundation of the current life.

The North Node itself is not a fixed point with a single meaning that must be discovered once and for all. Its symbolism unfolds in layers, with different opportunities emerging at different stages of life. What feels like an invitation to growth in your twenties may shift into something very different by your fifties. The task is not to uncover “the one true meaning,” but to see which meaning resonates most naturally right now. Signs, houses, aspects, and current transits form a landscape of possibilities. The key question is always: what is, at this moment in my life, the most organic way to follow the movement of the North Node?

A good astrologer approaches this with an open mind and does not use the Nodes to prescribe strict lessons. It is not about dogma or rigid truths, but about a dialogue in which the symbols connect to the client’s lived experience. A touch of humor can sometimes help, reminding us that growth is oten a process of trial and error. A new step does not need to be perfect or dramatic; often it is found in small choices and everyday moments. The astrologer offers no judgment, but rather a mirror that invites self-insight. Instead of saying what someone “must learn,” the Nodes are presented as possibilities that can be embraced in ways that feel natural now. In this way, the interpretation of the Nodes remains open, personal, and alive.
